Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT)

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore, is a private deemed-to-be university located in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. The institution was founded in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College and was granted university status in 2001. Over the years, VIT has developed into a major multidisciplinary higher education institution with programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.
VIT offers education across a wide range of disciplines including Engineering and Technology, Science, Management, Architecture, Design, Agriculture, Life Sciences, Humanities and other emerging fields. Its academic environment places significant emphasis on quality teaching, research, innovation, industry interaction and international exposure.
The Vellore campus provides modern academic infrastructure, laboratories, research facilities, libraries, student accommodation and facilities for extracurricular activities. VIT also has a diverse student population drawn from different parts of India and overseas.
The institution holds NAAC A++ accreditation and has consistently featured prominently in India's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). In NIRF 2025, VIT Vellore was ranked 16th in Engineering, 14th among Universities and 21st in the Overall category.
VIT also maintains a centralised Career Development Centre for placements and industry engagement, helping students prepare for recruitment through training, skill development and interactions with employers.
